Mingma Sherpa, Chairman at Seven Summit Treks, who had flown to Manalsu today morning with Two Sherpas; Sona and Dawa gyalje (also known as Ang Dawa) confirmed that the duo has been able to rescue a Sherpa Climber who fell ill on his way back from the summit. Lakpa Tsheri, who had been accompanying climber Nima Gyalzen Sherpa and a Chinese lady in their expedition to Mount Manasalu, had lost his ability to walk at Camp IV. Lakpa Tsheri, along with Nima Gyalzen and the Chinese citizen, has successfully scaled Mt. Manaslu, the mountain marked as the 8th Highest Peak in the World on the 19th of October.
This morning (9:00 AM- Local Time) the helicopter dropped two experienced Sherpas from Seven Summit Treks at Camp III (6,750m) of Mt. Manaslu. The team took 2 and half hours to reach from C3 to C4 (7,400m) and 3 more hours to bring down the injured climber to an access point from where the Heli flight could be operated.
According to Mingma Sherpa, “The rescued person has been admitted to Grande Hospital, Tokha, Kathmandu and is now safe. This rescue is one of the most dangerous rescues ever operated in my career. In a single day, we can perform such an incredible feat. We flew from Kathmandu to C4 (7,400m) of Manaslu and again back to Kathmandu.” “Our rescue team did an excellent job and was able to take the right action in time. We were able to bring the man down to safety at 4:20 PM.” Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Director of SST added.
This autumn, different agencies had issued 255 individual permits to operate expeditions on Manaslu. The summit on 19 October by Lakpa Tsheri, Nima Gyalzen, and the Chinese citizen was the last summit of this Autumn.
