Trip Overview
Mt. Manaslu, The 8th highest peak in the world which is elevated at the height of 8,163m (26,781 ft) above sea level is located in the ridges of Mansiri Himal in the Gorkha District of Nepal. Regarded as the “mountain of the spirit”, Mt. Manaslu is identified as Mt. Kutung in Tibet. This peak lies about 64km east of Mt. Annapurna.
The first known attempt to climb Mount Manaslu was made by a Japanese expedition in 1952, but they were not successful. The mountain was eventually climbed for the first time on 9 May 1956, by a Japanese expedition led by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. The team consisted of Imanishi, Norbu, and six Sherpa climbers. They climbed the mountain via the North West Face.
An expedition to Manaslu requires a high level of physical fitness, technical climbing skills, and experience in high-altitude mountaineering. It is also important to properly acclimatize to the altitude, have the right gear, and be prepared for the risks of avalanches, landslides, and other hazards. The views from the summit are said to be breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The Seven Summit Treks, Manaslu expedition will begin in the first week of September starting from Kathmandu. You will have a couple of days for the preparation of goods, equipment and paperwork. Afterward, you will drive to Besi Sahar and further trek via Larke pass to base camp as per the program. We will set up four camps. We will do a frequent rotation to each camp for the best acclimatization. The basecamp is normally set at (4,700m/15,420ft), Camp I at (5,500m/18,045ft), Camp II (6,200m/20,341ft), Camp III (6,800m/22,310ft), Camp IV (7,400m/24,278ft) and Summit (8,163m/26,782ft). Long crests of the mountain offer the possibility to be scaled from every direction to conclude to the top which is sharply above its neighboring scenes. Among six routes, the route starting from the south is hard-hitting while the northeast face route is the most common. Every year Seven Summit Treks organize a large number of successive expeditions of Mt. Manaslu.
" We await to serve you our service and share our experience with you "
Basecamp (4,700m/15,420ft)
Either by Heli flight to Samagaun and further to basecamp or 10 days trek, you will reach Manaslu basecamp of Seven Summit Treks at the altitude of 4800m where you will be awaited by our best Sherpa team. Seven Summit has the best setup of basecamp at Manaslu with a large number of groups. Manaslu Basecamp lies on a rocky moraine with amazing views of the mountains. You will be spending about a month at base camp. Each member will get a separate member tent and dining, kitchen, shower, Communication, and toilet tents. Before we climb the mountain, we have a big puja ceremony at base camp for good luck and safe climbing. At Manaslu Basecamp, Seven Summit has frequent helicopter charters and every single charter brings lots of fresh vegetables, fresh meat, beverages, and sometimes bread items.
Camp I (5,500m/18,045ft)
For the best acclimatization, once the rope is fixed by the Sherpa team you will climb to Camp I which lies at an altitude of 5700m. In this section of climbing, you will encounter mixed terrain with few crevasses and ice on the section of the glacier. This will take you about 3-4 hours of climbing. We will have frequent rotations on Camp I and back to base camp.
Camp II (6,200m/20,341ft)
The most technical section to climb on Mt. Manaslu is from Camp I to Camp II. You need to walk on snow for over an hour and some several steep sections of ice and need to climb on a ladder. This will take about 5 hours.
Camp III (6,800m/22,310ft)
Climbing from Camp II to Camp III is the shortest distance to climb. It will take only 2 to 3 hours to climb. It's a very short route though some technical climbing on a few crevasses exists, a very comfortable climb will be experienced.
Camp IV (7,400m/24,278ft)
It’s a tough day to climb from camp III to IV because the real climbing begins from this point. You are already at an altitude of 7500m so the oxygen level will be low and some members can feel difficulties. In this section of climbing, you will need to climb for about 3 to 4 hours on steep snow parts. You might have sleep experience if the weather favors you in advance on acclimatization days.
Summit (8,163m/26,782ft)
The most important day is summit day. It is the main goal for all climbers. It's a day that climbers dream about. So, most of the climbers begin their summit push at late night and will walk to the summit for about 7 to 8 hours and will reach the summit about 8-10 am (morning). The Summit of Mt. Manaslu is stunning. You will be mesmerized by the beautiful view of different 8000m peaks. On the same day after taking some pictures, you will walk down to Camp III or Camp II, which will take about 5 to 6 hours. descending from the summit is also a difficult part of this expedition so safety descent is also an important part of summit day. Seven Summit Treks will have one climbing Sherpa with one member from camp IV to summit day and till back to basecamp. The SST guide will carry an oxygen cylinder for Members and himself. For the safe summit of Mt. Manaslu, SST will always have a guideline of the best weather forecast, communication, and back support from the basecamp leader. Rope fixing up to the summit is the major duty of our climbing Sherpa so we highly admire our Sherpa for fixing ropes, breaking trails, and making all the effort to get the group to the summit of Mt. Manaslu.
