Mountain guide Bhote becomes the first Nepali to ski from the summit of Mt. Manaslu
Kathmandu, Sept 30: Renowned mountain guide Tshering Pande Bhote climbed the 8161m peak of Manaslu and skied down from the summit, becoming the first Nepali climber to ski down the top of a mountain above 8000m.
The 45-year-old IFMGA certified mountain guide (instructor) from Bhotkhola-3, Sankhuwasabha district, reached the world’s eighth highest peak on 21 September 2023 at 10:37 am Nepal time. Bhote did the expedition through the Seven Summit Treks (SST), a Kathmandu-based trekking and expedition company. He has a large career portfolio.
Bhote, an eminent personality in the mountaineering sector, was the first Nepali to acquire an International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) guide accreditation apart from being one of the few people to hold certifications from both the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA) and the Nepal National Mountain Guides Association (NNMGA). He started his mountaineering career in 1996, he has so far successfully guided mountaineers to numerous mountains above 8000m including Everest, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Makalu, and Lhotse.
A licensed rescue technician, he was one of the three mountain guides sent by Simrik Air to Zermatt, Switzerland in 1012 for specific Helicopter Rescue Specialist training. He has strong international climbing and rescue experience and extensive knowledge of logistics and planning. He is also the first RECCO instructor from Nepal.
