Australian mountaineer Pepper successfully climbs Mt Manaslu without supplementary oxygen
Kathmandu, Sept 28: An Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper has successfully climbed Mt Manaslu without supplementary oxygen.
Pepper reached atop the world's 8th tallest peak (8163m) alongside Mingtemba Sherpa, a mountain guide, who has successfully ascended many mountains (he reached the top of Mount Everest five times, Annapurna once, Manaslu five times including this, K2 twice and Broad Peak once).
As a part of Seven Summit Treks Manaslu Exped. 2023 Autumn, she ascended the true summit of Mt Manaslu at 9:30am today. The true summit is the last short section of the mountain. The true summit is 6-7 metres higher than the fore summit.
Grown up in Australia's largest climbing area, the Blue Mountains, Pepper with 23 years of climbing experience has many feats of climbing mountains. In 2007, she successfully climbed Cho Oyu (8188m), the sixth highest mountain in the world without the use of supplementary oxygen. It took her eight days for the completion of the summit, which was her first 8000m expedition. She reached the top of Mt Everest and the fore-summit of Manaslu. In April, 2022, she successfully ascended Annapurna I, becoming the third Australian to achieve the feat of climbing Annapurna I, the most dangerous of all the fourteen 8000m peaks.
On May 24, 2023, she reached a height of 8450m on Mt Everest without oxygen. This is the highest altitude that any Australian woman has been without supplementary oxygen, it has been reported.
Her ascent of mountains over 5000m includes:
