Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance

There is a fine line between adventure and blatant risk. What parts them is the level of preparation that does in a particular activity. Leaving behind the comforts of your home into the embrace of nature is an adventure; not making sure that you are properly insured is a risk. Therefore, Seven Summit Treks (P) Ltd. requests you purchase insurance that is comprehensive enough to cover all possibilities that may ensue during your stay in Nepal.

As mentioned in the Terms and Conditions of Seven Summit Treks, the agency is exempt from being liable for different expenses that may occur in case of different emergencies or unforeseen situations. In addition to that, a foreigner isn’t allowed to purchase insurance in Nepal. Both facts point out the requirement of a client to purchase an elaborate travel insurance plan in their place of origin that protects their interest in case of trip cancellation, helicopter evacuation, medical emergencies, other illnesses, lost luggage, theft, disasters, death, and so on.

Points to remember regarding your Travel Insurance Plan:

  1. In case of accidents, or sickness, there may be the necessity of evacuation through helicopter. The tourism agencies can make provisions for helicopter evacuation, but refrain to involve themselves in the financial matters that ensue. And even if they do, they will seek compensation for their expenses. If you do not obtain an insurance plan that specifically covers helicopter rescue, the resulting expenses can be back-breaking for you.
  2. Apart from the rescue, even medical treatments for accidents in high altitudes and cold temperatures are quite expensive. In certain instances, a mobile medical team will have to accompany the helicopter crew to the base camps, which further increases the medical expenses. Hence, you must be properly insured for probable medical conditions.
  3. While purchasing insurance, it is wise to completely explain what you’re getting into and make sure that your insurance agent understands you. Your itinerary should be disclosed and the risks involved should be openly discussed before picking an insurance plan. This makes the client able to understand what is agreeable to the insurance company. Besides, it also makes claiming the insurance easier, in case the aforementioned circumstances take place.
  4. Consultation with multiple insurance providers before finally picking an insurance policy can be helpful. Mountaineering is a very challenging task that is never devoid of certain risks. So, it is necessary to specifically mention ‘mountaineering’ or ‘alpinism’ while explaining to the insurance providers your needs.
  5. Since the deposits made by a client are not refundable because of the company’s obligations, the client must be also insured against trip cancellation.
  6. The client must provide us with a copy of their insurance policy (or insurance certificate) so that we can take due steps during the time of emergency.

Mardi Himal trek. A wonderful trek ideal even for beginners. Wonderful views, great facilities. Our choice for this trek was through our honeymoon. Seven Summit Treks organized and prepared everything. Sherpa Tashi and porter Nima were great. We could talk, they always prepared everything. I have been in contact with the guys from Seven Summit Treks since the expedition to Makalu and I know that I can rely on them. Thank you for your help and wonderful experience. And see you at the next event.

Our first co-operation was in 2013 in Pakistan with Arnold Coster expeditions and Sevensummittreks towards the Gasherbrum. After that, we continued to work together on expeditions towards Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Manaslu (winter), and AmaDablam. For me, SST is a very professional company with a lot of experience and knowledge. We have full confidence in their capabilities and appreciate their flexibility. I would like to thank them for all those years of cooperation and I look forwards to new adventures in Nepal and Pakistan.

I have been on many expeditions in Nepal over the years, most of them I organized with friends and used Seven Summit Treks only for their base camp services with great service! This year none of my friends were available to climb in Nepal in the Autumn season so I contacted SST and decided to sign up for the Mera Peak and Baruntse expedition. SST organized everything and provide me with a personal climbing Sherpa for the entire trip. Throughout the entire trip, everything was taken care of by SST, including lodging, tea houses, and meals. At Baruntse base camp I had a nice private tent and the cook and kitchen staff always had smiles and cooked great meals. My Sherpa (Jangbu) was great and we became close friends and climbing partners. Jangbu was always there with a smile, a very strong climber, always wanting to help in any way he could. There was plenty of time to decide how and when we were going to make a summit push based on the weather. We had fantastic summit days on both peaks and finished the trip crossing the Amphu Labste pass into the Khumbu Valley staying each night in nice lodges with all meals included. I would highly recommend using SST for any expedition that you want to go on. Thank you Seven Summit Treks for a great trip and your attention to detail!!
